Garmin is issuing a recall for some 1.25 million of its nuvi navigation devices. The company said that the personal navigation devices were prone to an overheating problem which could potentially pose a fire hazard. The nuvi's printed circuit boards suffer from a condition which can cause the battery to heat up to dangerous levels. Garmin said that thus far no serious property damage or physical injuries have been reported. Most of the recalled nuvi systems will be found in the US, where roughly 796,000 of the 1.25 million effected devices were believed to be shipped, and a similar number of international units could be at risk. The company has set up a website which allows users to check serial numbers and obtain further information about the recall.
