As an 18-year-old computer wiz, James Robert Black, Jr., could have done a lot of good with his talents. Instead, the teen hacker helped hijack the website of one of the nation's largest Internet providers, Comcast.net, and crash the company's e-mail system. Black, a Tumwater resident who will celebrate his 21st birthday later his month, and two other men were charged in the May 2008 hack that saw about 20 million people lose access to their e-mail for a period of hours. Like his co-defendants, Black has pleaded guilty to related charges; he was sentenced Monday to four months in federal detention. Addressing U.S. District Court Judge Benjamin Settle, Black's attorney remarked on his client's potential and the relative ease with which he and his confederates momentarily brought down Comcast.
