The US military has filed charges against a soldier detained in connection with the leak of a classified video showing a 2007 US helicopter attack that killed a dozen people in Iraq, officials said on Tuesday. Bradley Manning, 22, was charged on Monday with criminal counts including allegations he disclosed classified national defence information, exceeded his authorised access to US computers and transferred classified data onto his personal computer. An Army spokesman said Mr Manning could face as many as 52 years in prison. The next step is a hearing, similar to those conducted by a civilian grand jury, for officers to decide whether the case should proceed to a court martial, said Lt. Col. Eric Bloom.
