After two years of job cuts to reduce operating expenses, Dell Inc. is now shifting gears to hire 5,000 sales workers to bolster the marketing of its enterprise solutions. The 45 percent increase in sales people over three years is part of Round Rock-based Dell’s (Nasdaq: DELL) plan to double its data center business by selling more storage and servers to its business customers, officials said at Dell’s annual analyst meeting in Austin.Although the additional sales workers (rising from 11,000 to 16,000) isn’t expected to have a direct effect on local jobs, the increased business that they’re projected to generate bodes well for Dell’s local operations, Chief Financial Officer Brian Gladden said. Dell, the No. 3 computer maker in the world, employs an estimated 16,000 workers in Central Texas.
