The Chicago area will see great demand in the next few years for information technology workers specializing in "green" IT, mobile and wireless sectors, and in cloud computing and software-as-a-service, according to a study released Wednesday. The study, "IT Occupation Trends in Illinois," shows jobs are expected to grow in these categories: • Mobile-wireless specialists, 12 percent. • Green IT, 12 percent. • Security administrators, 11 percent. • Cloud computing and software-as-a-service, 9 percent. • Security specialists, 8 percent. • Project managers, 8 percent. • Help-desk technicians, 7 percent. The study also identified as trends more businesses outsourcing their IT operations to a technology service or solution provider, and increasing subscriptions to Internet-based services for data backup and storage.
