[HIB]Lawyers need to get serious about security.
Lawyers - like doctors and many other people - are often too busy to take the time to learn basic security measures for their computers or portable communications devices. But information technologists who work to outfit lawyers and law firms say lawyers who don't take online security precautions are playing with fire in an age where intrusions by spyware, malware, hackers and other interlopers is growing by the day."We are in the middle of an epidemic of spyware and malware infections," said Darren Marshment of DM Computer Services Inc., an information technology consultancy that services solo legal practitioners and boutique law firms. "It seems to be ebbing a little bit at the moment, but in the last couple of months we jumped from seeing one seriously infected computer every three months to seeing two or three a week and some of them are very aggressively taken over."
