The origin of saying This too will pass appears to date back to a story
told about King Solomon, a wise ruler of Hebrew empire.
It is said that the King called upon all of his wise men
and asked them to bring him one thing which works in every situations,
in every joy every sorrow. Eventually the wise men met an old joweler
who carved into a simple gold ring with the Hebrew inscription
"This too will pass".
When the king received the ring, he wondered how this simple ring could help him.
However, when he read the inscription, his sorrows turned to joy
and his joy to sorrow, and then both gave way to equanimity.
The saying
"This too will pass".
gives him a sense of perspective.
Every time he was in trouble, he should think: Even this evil will pass and is not persistent,
and he will be happy and be comforted in this.
And if he stands in good fortune,
he can enjoy it without getting attached to the circumstance,
knowing that the good fortune is not persistent with him.
Thus the King was able to preserve his sense of balance
through all the ups and downs of life and lived his life happily.
In life we encounter both positive and negative experiences
which stem from the eight worldly conditions.
Desirable conditions - fortune, status, praise and happiness
- bring satisfaction,
while undesirable ones - loss of possessions, loss of status, criticism and misery
- bring dissatisfaction.
However, if we can bear in mind that
"This too will pass",
we will be able to maintain our moods in a state of balance.
When you encounter a mood that is not to your liking,
such as sadness,
or even when you encounter a mood that is to your liking,
such as gladness.
Start with being aware of your breath.
Then take a long in - breath and long out - breath.
With awareness of the long in - breath and long out -breath,
you can bring your mind back to calmness and state of balance.
Remind yourself with the saying "This too will pass".
In every sorrow every joy, they are not persistent.

<div align="right">ในอดีตมีพระราชาผู้ยิ่งใหญ่แห่งอาณาจักรฮิบรู พระนามว่าโซโลมอน
พระราชาได้สั่งให้เจ้าเมืองทุกเมืองทำของวิเศษให้อย่างหนึ่ง
โดยของสิ่งนั้นต้องมีคุณสมบัติพิเศษ คือ ...
ของสิ่งนี้จะสามารถเปลี่ยนอารมณ์ความรู้สึกของพระราชาได้
หากมีความทุกข์อยู่ก็จะหายทุกข์ หากมีความสุขอยู่ก็จะคลายความสุขลง
ไม่ว่ากำลังร้องไห้อยู่หรือหัวเราะอยู่ ก็จะสามารถหยุดอารมณ์ทั้งสองอย่างนั้นได้
เมื่อครบกำหนด เ้จ้าเมืองใดก็ไม่สามารถหาของตามที่พระราชาต้องการได้
แต่มีเจ้าเมืองเล็กๆ เมืองหนึ่ง ได้บอกว่ามีแหวนวิเศษมีคุณสมบัติอย่างที่พระราชาต้องการมาถวาย
พระราชาจึงรีบให้มาเข้าเฝ้า เมื่อพระราชาได้เห็นแหวนวงนั้นแล้ว
ปรากฎว่าเป็นเพียงแหวนทองธรรมดาเรียบๆ วงหนึ่ง
พระราชาก็สงสัยว่าแหวนนี้จะมีความวิเศษได้อย่างไรกัน
เมื่อพระราชานำไปใช้ก็ปรากฎว่าแหวนวงนี้สามารถเปลี่ยนอารมณ์ของพระองค์ได้จริงๆ
ไม่ว่าพระองค์จะกำลังมีความทุกข์หรือความสุขอยู่ก็ตาม
เพียงเพราะว่าแหวนวงนั้นมีข้อความสั้นๆ สลักไว้ว่า
"แล้วสิ่งนั้นจะผ่านพ้นไป"
ยามใดที่พระราชามีความสุข ความยินดี
หรือมีความทุกข์ ความโกรธ ความกังวล ไม่สบายใจ
"แล้วสิ่งนั้นจะผ่านพ้นไป"
ทำให้พระองค์เข้าใจว่า สิ่งที่พระองค์กำลังประสบอยู่ไม่ว่าจะสุขหรือทุกข์
มันไม่จีรึงยั่งยืน เกิดขึ้นมาแล้วก็จากไป
นับตั้งแต่นั้นมา พระราชาก็ไม่คิดที่จะนำความทุกข์มากังวล มีความสุขก็มิได้ยึดติดกับความสุขนั้น
ทำให้พระราชาสามารถตัดสินใจในเรื่องต่างๆ ได้อย่างถูกต้อง
และตั้งหน้าตั้งตาทำเพื่อประชาชนของพระองค์ จนได้ชื่อว่าเป็นกษัตริย์ผู้ยิ่งใหญ่ เป็นที่รักใคร่ของประชาชน
ในการดำเนินชีวิตของเรานั้นต้องประสบกับโลกธรรม๘ คือ
ได้ลาภ ยศ สรรเสริญ สุข ก็ต้องมีเสื่อมลาภ เสื่อมยศ นินทา ทุกข์ เป็นธรรมดา
หากเราสามารถเตือนสติตนเองได้ว่า
"แล้วสิ่งนั้นจะผ่านพ้นไป"
ก็จะช่วยให้เราทำใจเป็นกลาง ทำใจเป็นปกติได้ เมื่อความรู้สึกต่างๆ เกิดขึ้น
เช่น หงุดหงิด โกรธ น้อยใจ เสียใจ ขี้เกียจ วิตกกังวล หรือมีความรู้สึกตื่นเต้น ยินดี พอใจ ก็ตาม
ให้เรามีสติ ปรับปรุงลมหายใจยาวๆ หายใจเข้าลึกๆ หายใจออกยาวๆ
ให้เกิดความรู้สึกตัว รักษาใจเป็นกลาง ทำใจให้สงบ และทำให้ใจปล่อยวางว่า
"แล้วสิ่งนั้นจะผ่านพ้นไป"
เมื่อมีทุกข์ ทุกข์นั้นไม่ใช่สิ่งจีรีงยั่งยืน ไม่มีประโยชน์อะไรที่เราจะนำความทุกข์มาเป็นกังวล
เมื่อมีสุข สุขนั้นก็ไม่จีรังยั่งยืนเช่นกัน เราไม่ควรยึดมั้นถือมั่น
"ทุกสิ่งล้วนไม่เที่ยง เป็นอนิจจัง"</div>
