This morning, the master jailbreakers known as the iPhone Dev-Team had some troubling news for the JB community: They wonât be issuing a jailbreak for iOS 4.0.2 (or 3.2.2 for the iPad). The update proved that Apple has no problem with pushing out updates with the sole purpose of patching jailbreak exploits. To be fair, Apple had good reason to go on red alert and move swiftly to plug the (well-publicized) JailbreakMe.com vulnerability. Other hackers couldâve easily entered into this same back door; itâs just too easy to direct unsuspecting users to a website that automatically downloads awful, malicious code (via PDF) into a device. But considering the company is shipping new devices with the updated software already preloaded, there will now be scores of new users who wonât even be able to roll back to a previous jailbroken version. And so itâs the Dev-Teamâs turn at the plate. And instead of swinging for the fences, itâs leaving the stadium â and taking the bat and ball with it. On the surface, it may seem like Cartman gathering his things and screaming, âScrew you, Kyle! Iâm going homeâ¦â Then again, maybe not.
