Thereâs a strong case that Dell is the PC brand of Joe Average, and itâs certainly true that Joe Average likely runs Windows. Which makes it all the more surprising that Dell is bigging up a Linux-based operating system. The firm has just published a list of 10 reasons why customers should buy its Ubuntu computers. It doesnât quite go as far as outright attacking Windows, though, and in a comparison checklist it concentrates on similarities rather than differences. The only specific features it lists for Ubuntu ahead of Windows are the inclusion of Open Office (which is a little misleading given the Windows edition is a free download), and that anti-virus and anti-spyware software are âunwarrantedâ for Ubuntu, but have an extra cost with Windows (which isnât the case with the free Security Essentials package).
